Showcasing Innovations in Healthcare & Public Health
El Rio Health’s 9th Annual Poster Fair is a dynamic showcase where healthcare and public health scholars across the region will their share groundbreaking research, innovative quality improvement projects, and impactful program developments. This activity is designed to promote best practices and knowledge exchange among professionals from FQHCs, hospital-based teaching health centers, and academic institutions.

Submissions Due by February 23, 2025
We are excited to invite students, residents, clinicians, and researchers from all disciplines and organizations to share their work! We are seeking poster abstracts highlighting research, quality improvement initiatives, innovative projects, and conceptual works. Submissions may include works in progress, completed projects, or ideas that emphasize best practices in community-oriented, patient-centered primary care, and population health programs.

Projects of interest include, but are not limited to, those that address the following Guiding Principles:
• Focus on key public health challenges and the broader factors influencing healthcare access and patient outcomes
• Promote inclusive and community-driven approaches to healthcare improvement
• Engage and collaborate with local communities to strengthen health initiatives
• Build meaningful partnerships that enhance the patient experience and improve care delivery
• Drive innovations in team-based care and healthcare system improvements
• Improve healthcare delivery in rural and historically underserved communities
• Advance integrated, patient-centered approaches to care

Gain visibility for your research, QI projects, or program innovations among a broad and diverse audience of professionals and experts who are passionate about advancing healthcare and public health.
Peer-Reviewed Poster Competition
Each poster will be scored by a panel of three (3) judges selected from among 40+ expert volunteers. Posters will be graded on innovation, scientific merit, and presentation style. Winners will be selected in four (4) award categories. Award categories are detailed below.
Awards & Recognition
Poster winners will be celebrated at the Southwestern Primary Care Research & Innovation Summit Awards Luncheon on May 7, 2025. “Best Overall” and 1st Place award recipients among will present their findings during a moderated “talk-show” style interview after the awards ceremony—a unique opportunity to highlight your work to a live audience!
CARLOS M. FLORES, MD "CREATE TOMORROW" AWARD
This award is presented to the author(s) of the Best Overall Poster. The poster clearly demonstrates an impact on improved health outcomes. Research and findings contribute to new knowledge of improved practices or policies that support community health centers. Additionally, the model demonstrates replicability in other community health centers.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will be presented for each of the following categories:
INNOVATION AWARD
Posters that provide new information or unique practice models and contribute insight into important and timely research or to improvements in patient care.
RELEVANCE AWARD
Projects that are both pertinent and of great interest to community health centers and primary care.
COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD
Posters that discuss the impact on health outcomes in the community, and clearly describe and demonstrate community involvement.
